Matariki: A Story of Connection and Reflection
When TÄne separated his parents Ranginui (the Sky Father) and PapatÅ«Änuku (the Earth Mother), a dark void filled the cosmos with their tears. The heartbreak of their separation reverberated throughout the heavens, creating an atmosphere of sorrow and longing.
The God of weather, TÄwhirimÄtea, was deeply affected by the cries of his parents. Unable to bear their sorrow, he waged war against his siblings, who had supported the separation. In his anguish and grief, TÄwhirimÄtea made a vow that his brothers would never forget their betrayal.
As a final act of defiance, TÄwhirimÄtea tore out his own eyes, crushed them in his hands, and cast the shards into the heavens. These fragments became the stars of Matariki, a constellation that holds deep significance in MÄori culture.

The Matariki Watch Design
The design of the watch is a tribute to the story of Matariki and TÄwhirimÄtea. The watch case features nine 24k gold inlays, each representing one of the stars in the Matariki constellation. The lugs of the watch symbolize TÄwhirimÄtea, the God of weather, whose emotions and actions created this celestial legacy.
On the case back, a detailed engraving depicts TÄwhirimÄtea surrounded by the swirling cosmos, with Ranginui and PapatÅ«Änuku on either side. This imagery serves as a powerful reminder of the balance between the sky and the earth, and the enduring connection between them.
A Symbol of Life's Importance
Each time you wear and look at the watch, you are reminded of the things that truly matter in life: our connection to family, our environment, and the earth we live on. The story of Matariki encourages reflection, gratitude, and a renewed sense of hope for the future, inspiring us to cherish the bonds that unite us and to honor the natural world around us.
