In Maori mythology Tiki was the first mortal man created by Tane, God of the forest and birds. Tiki is also known as the originator of sexuality and love making with his wife Marikoriko (Twilight) who was created from the heat of the sun and the echoing cliff. Te mahi a Tiki translated means “The activity of Tiki” which generally refers to the art of love making.
Tiki is also the name given to wooden carvings that have an approximate human shape.
